Know Your FRONTLINE(tm) Packaging!
Frontline(tm), the well-known flea and tick preventive for dogs and cats, is available over the counter at pet supply stores and from the internet. However, not all packages of Frontline(tm) are created equally! While you can depend on Frontine(tm) bought through veterinarians to be the real deal, over the counter (OTC) products have occasionally been found to be counterfeit. Counterfeit products may not work for you pet, or worse, do your pet harm.
The image below compares a package of Frontline bought at a veterinary office (on the left) to one that was bought at a local hardware store (on the right). As you can see, there are several subtle differences between the two, but the most serious is a lack of safety information on the back of the suspect package shown on the right. I don't know where the package on the right originated from, but the labeling on the box is inadequate, so I wouldn't trust the contents inside.
So how to tell if your Frontline(tm)
is authentic? The easiest way is to look for safety information and the "MADE IN FRANCE" notation
on the back of the packaging.
